STE(A)M  with Miss. Athena

Brighthorizons.com says that STEM is an acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. STEM Education, a term initiated by the National Science Foundation, refers to an educational approach which integrates more than one of these disciplines.  Science, technology, engineering, and math may seem like lofty subject matter for preschool children. In reality, preschoolers spontaneously engage in STEM activities indoors and out on a regular basis. With a little guidance from us, we can enhance children's opportunities to engage in STEM learning and develop their critical thinking skills

At Leeway, we have decided to add the "A" to make it STEAM because we are adding the Art component to the children's learning. Miss. Athena creates lessons that are engaging and challenging for each student's individual needs.  With the use of the inFocus Boards, Kindles and hands- on learning toys, the children are given many opportunities to critically think about a "STEM Challenge" and figure out solutions to the problem.  Check out the Monthly Newsletters under the News Tab to see all of the activities that are done with the children.

Hi, Hello my friends.
How are you today?
STEM is a lot of fun because we learn through play!
Hooray,hooray, hooray!

"STEAM based learning is teaching  children to learn through play.  Problem solving, critical thinking and communication skills are strengthened through child-led play" - Miss. Athena
